When I was building my Threadripper build, I had the option of purchasing a motherboard that cost nearly 350 dollars or one that cost 700 dollars. At the time, both motherboards supported the same features, including the ability to use a single NVMe 2TB HDD and a SATA SSD, as well as 32 to 64GB of RAM. Both motherboards also ran Windows 10 Pro well, and they both had Wi-Fi networking, Bluetooth, and other standard functions.

The 700 dollar motherboard offered no functionality that I was going to use, as the X399 chipset was the only option for Threadripper at that time.
