The power and torque of lithium-ion cordless drills can be remarkably high, often surpassing that of their corded counterparts. A 18V lithium-ion drill can produce triple the torque of an air tool of the same size and twice the revolutions per minute (rpm). This provides users with the necessary power to handle various materials efficiently.
Additionally, today's high-capacity lithium-ion batteries (4Ah and above) take less time to recharge, often under an hour on a fast charger or two hours on a normal charger. This means that having multiple batteries and a charger slot per tool is enough to operate continuously all day, significantly reducing the time spent moving extension cords.
Cost Considerations and Battery Quality
While the initial cost of a good cordless drill and its batteries is higher, the overall cost-effectiveness and time savings make them a wise investment. The quality of the batteries is crucial, with higher output or higher capacity batteries made from higher-quality cells lasting much longer. For example, a Ryobi 4Ah battery from eight years ago still functions well, while lower-quality batteries typically deplete their lifespan in just a few years.
