Distinguishing Between a Haunted House and a Burglar: An Unforgettable Night in a Villa
On a chilly winter night, my son and I decided to spend the night in a spacious apartment on the second floor of a villa that housed the Starfish diving club where I worked. The apartment had a large floor-to-ceiling window and a balcony with sliding glass doors. We settled in comfortably, discussing the day's events until an unsettling wind began to blow from the window.
The Unsettling Wind and Initial Investigation
When I asked my son if he had opened the window, his response was unexpected. 'No, I didn’t open anything. Is it open?' he questioned. While it was a reasonable query, the problem lay in the fact that my son would have needed to stand up to move the window frame. Sensing something was amiss, I got out of bed and discovered that the window was indeed open. After pushing the heavy transom back into place, I was taken aback when the window opened again with a loud noise as soon as I settled back in bed.
The Strange Behavior of the Balcony Doors
The bizarre behavior of the balcony doors was the most alarming. They had cost me considerable effort to open, but in a matter of moments, they flew off the hinges in different directions with a force that seemed almost supernatural. I couldn’t help but think, 'With what force does one have to push them so that they would fly off like fluff in different directions and hit the doorway with a roar?'
Fortified by our shared fear, I suggested that my son spend the night in the corridor next to our room for safety. I settled on a small sofa with a folding bed for my son, and together we tried to rest, feeling discomfort and a sense of the irrational. Fortunately, the club manager passed by without questioning our presence in the corridor.
The Repeated Incidents and Continuous Stay
Since that night, we have faced repeated strange incidents at the villa. The correlation between the strange occurrences and our choice to stay in the corridor became evident. That decision almost guaranteed that nothing unusually unpleasant happened, and we began to tire of the inappropriate events.
The Distinguishing Factors
To differentiate between a haunted house and a burglar, it is crucial to recognize the nature of the events. In the case of a haunted house, the behavior often seems surreal, with doors flying open and windows opening and closing inexplicably. The feelings of discomfort and a sense of the supernatural are common. On the other hand, intruders are more likely to engage in stealthy and deliberate actions, such as quietly opening doors and windows from the outside.
Based on our experience, the presence of sudden, unexplained noises and the behavior of windows and doors aligning more closely with a haunted house scenario than a burglar. The inappropriate behavior of the balcony doors, which cost considerable effort to open, only to fly off with minimal force, points towards a more supernatural origin.
While each situation is unique, understanding the distinguishing factors between a haunted house and a burglar is crucial for ensuring safety. If you find yourself in a similar situation, it is best to prioritize your safety and consider the nature of the events to make informed decisions.
For safe living and peace of mind, it is essential to remain vigilant and take appropriate actions. Whether the events are caused by supernatural forces or criminal activity, ensuring a secure environment is of utmost importance.
