Why Your Bathroom Deserves More Attention: Discovering Its Importance

Beyond its basic functions, the bathroom holds a significant place in our daily lives. This often-overlooked room can have a profound impact on our well-being, creativity, and home atmosphere. Let's explore why the bathroom is more than just a space for grooming and personal care.

Why Is The Bathroom So Important?

Well, other than its obvious purposes, there's more to the bathroom than we might give it credit for. The bathroom is perhaps the one room in the house that we take for granted. Consider the following points:

Bookend The Day

Other than our bed, the bathroom is where we essentially begin and end each day. What transpires in the bathroom can set the tone for the rest of the day. Did you know that the average person spends at least 1.5 years of their life in the bathroom? For some, it might be 1.5 years just waiting to use the bathroom. How you start and finish your day in the bathroom significantly influences your overall mood and productivity.

Finding Inspiration

Many find their best ideas in the shower. It’s a sacred space for thinking and planning. Whether you rehearse a presentation or prepare for a job interview, the bathroom can be a sanctuary for creativity. It’s a silent, intimate space that allows you to focus and reflect.

Sets Tone For Home

The aesthetic of a bathroom plays a crucial role in setting the tone for the rest of your home. A well-designed bathroom can complement the overall look and feel of your living space. Adding elements like candles, artwork, and matching towels can make the bathroom a room to be proud of. It is no longer just a functional space but an important part of your home’s aesthetic.

Safe Space

Every home has a few sacred spaces where you can retreat for solitude. The bathroom is one such place. It offers a momentary respite from the stresses of the day. A nice hot shower or a warm bath can help you unwind, creating a safe space where you can relax and rejuvenate.

The Personal Touch Of Master Bathrooms

Master bathrooms are the epitome of personal and luxurious spaces. As a bathroom designer with over 35 years of experience, I've seen some incredible examples. The key to designing a master bathroom is the balance between functionality and aesthetics, especially within the budget.

For example, the master bathroom I designed for my husband and myself was a perfect blend of practicality and luxury. The bathroom is divided by a hallway that leads to a walk-in closet. My husband's bath has a 6'9" lavatory cabinet with hamper cabinets on both sides of the sink cabinet, and two 21" wide tall wall cabinets each with two drawers for personal storage. Opposite the lavatory is the toilet and a bidet with wall cabinets above for storing towels and tissue.

My side of the bathroom features a 6'9" lavatory cabinet, 1' wide base pantry cabinets on both sides of the sink cabinet, and a 27" makeup cabinet with an open knee well. Above the makeup cabinet, a tall wall cabinet stores my personal-care products. A wall separates the lavatory from the shower and tub area, which include a two-person 42" wide shower and a 36"x66" soaking tub.

Conclusion

Designed well, a bathroom can be a sanctuary, a creative space, and a reflection of your personal style. Don't underestimate the significance of your bathroom. It is a space that can greatly impact your daily life and overall home ambiance. Embrace the possibilities and give your bathroom the attention it deserves.
